Kaywanna Bore Water Board Chairman’s Annual Report - 24 June 2026

Wow another year has gone by, where does our time go?

July and August gave us a few problems with issues at the main bore and Boogara booster station. I was contacted by Donald Thorn early July with no water getting to the back of “Manooka”. It was discovered the pumps were still pumping water to most of the properties but was not reaching high enough pressure to get water to “Manooka”. One of the Boogara pumps were running hot. It was discovered there was a build up of algae in the impellers in the pumps and were unable to pump to the correct pressure. It was decided to organise some replacement pumps and in doing so discovered we had a reconditioned pump in at Border Pumps. Donald cleaned out the pump that was getting hot and installed the reconditioned pump. With installation of the reconditioned pump gave as a further problem tripping an electrical relay. Donald spoke with Francis Hayes at Safewire and resolved the issue. Purchasing and replacing the relay. Pumps now up and running and the pressure had returned to near normal with water back at Manooka. The cleaned pump ran hot for a period of time after installation, so it was decided to purchase a new spare pump to have on hand. Thank you to Donald for his time on getting this all operating back to normal as it was time consuming resolving this issue on and off over a ten day period. Also thanks to Wyllie, George, and Kayla for their contributions.

The month of August gave us several problems at the main bore. The alarm system has been giving issues and not working reliably. I was contacted by Dave Woods with no water at the Coorangy pump station and he visited the main bore which was not pumping. Dave managed to get it operating again and suggested we needed an electrician to check it over. He had Laurie Cairns coming to Coorangy so he arranged him to go and check over the main bore. He discovered a tank level switch faulty but didn’t have the correct parts to repair. Andrew Williams was contacted to come and replace the level switches. When Andrew arrived he discovered someone had been to the main bore and disconnected circuit breakers and left gates open and the main bore not pumping. All was repaired by Andrew and all operating as normal. It was a mystery as to who removed circuit breakers and left the gates open. An upgrade of the chain at the main gate has happen since and no further visits.

No more than a week later Dave contacted again with no water at Coorangy pump station. The main bore was not pumping again. After a visit to the bore it was first thought the submersible was not working but ended up being a lighting arrestor on the transformer which had to be repaired by essential energy. Thanks for Dave’s time for getting both issues back online.

With both issues at the main bore the alarm system didn’t contact anyone. Kayla looked into this and discovered a faulty power board. Thanks Kayla the alarm system all back working. Thanks Ewan Beeton for the replacement power board.

The changed supply point at Boxyards was completed by the Golden Family and is operating fine. Thanks to Kayla for inspecting that the works were completed properly. All other points at Boxyards have been turned off and disconnected. No flow test has yet been done at the new point.

Kioma has replaced there tank at K1and have water operating as normal. There has been no reports of concerns of water at GA1 at Kyawanna since.

I was contacted by John Thorn letting me know of a leak on Eaglebar opposite Burloo house. This is yet to be repaired.

February I was contacted by Donald Thorn with a leak at Hector Tatum’s thanks to Donald, Wyllie, Hector and Kayla the leak was resolved and repaired.

April John Allen was contacted by Ashley Crawley with a leak on Canbrae. The excavator was required for the repair. Thanks to John and Clem Allen for getting this resolved.

Thanks to all members of the bore scheme that have contributed in some way this year.

Thanks again to the board Dale, John, Alice, George, Kayla and Sasha for another year.
